A photographic story created for Wide Eyes around the work of Gabriele Pici and Lecce stone, from the Bianco Cave quarry to the making of a console for La Cutura.
The project looks at the material before the object itself: the extracted blocks, the cuts, the dust, and the different stages of the making process. Within the stone, shells, fossils and traces of marine organisms emerge — remnants of millions of years that reveal part of the geological history of Salento.
The work brings together this memory of the territory and the contemporary gesture of the artisan, following the transformation of the stone through to its final form.
A selection of the images was published in Lampoon Magazine.
